Adopt a Family Ministry
"Making Friends"
|
Travis members have the opportunity to "make friends" with our neighbors by adopting a family from the community. Working closely with the Missions Ministry team, Travis families and individuals would serve as hosts and build relationships within the community that model the Christ-likeness of our faith in God, demonstrate a genuine desire to help, and serve as a conduit for information about Travis events that would be of benefit to the family. Our hope is that these loving and caring relationships will inspire and motivate those in the community to strive to improve their lives and better their own situations as well as lead toward the abundant life that Christ has promised. This ministry builds upon the foundation of our other community ministries. Contact Anthony if you would like to adopt a family and build a bridge to our community.

AMACHI Program
"People of Faith Mentoring Children of Promise"
|
AMACHI, a South African word meaning "Who knows what God has brought us through this child?" is more than just a mentoring program. It is the response to the needs of children with one or both parents in prison. While many programs reach out to those incarcerated, very few address the specific needs of the children affected by this situation. In Texas, approximately 400,000 children have a parent in jail. Statistics show that 70% of these children are at risk of becoming prisoners themselves one day simply as a matter of family tradition. By partnering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Texas, the AMACHI program hopes to change these statistics. Volunteers will have the opportunity to help stop the cycle of generational incarceration and make a difference by simply becoming a positive role model for a child. Click here for additional information about AMACHI Texas. To become a Travis AMACHI Volunteer contact the church office.

Autumn Chase Apartment Ministry
"Reaching the Innocent"
|
Between 35% and 40% of those residing in the United States live in some form of multi-family housing. Most do not attend church anywhere and most are high risk children who have no opportunity to go to church if they wanted to. Become an ACA Ministry Team member and help us reach out with the love of Christ to the children of the Autumn Chase Apartment community each Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00. A child needs you!

Benevolence House Ministry
"Beyond Food and Clothing"
|
"The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me.'" Matthew 25:40 (NASB)
|
It is the nature of Christianity and the duty of all Christians to care for the poor. We take this mandate very seriously and our Benevolence Ministry Team works tirelessly to continue our rich heritage of reaching thousands of community residents each year with food and clothing. But it doesn't stop there. Each recipient has the opportunity to hear the gospel and participate in worship. Benevolence Ministry team members are needed Monday, Wednesday, and/or Friday mornings from 10:00-11:30.

The Breakthrough Ministry is a specialized ministry of reconciliation, healing, hospitality, and prayer. If you have a heart for helping lead this disenfranchised group within our population towards the abundant life Christ promised, then contact Anthony in the church office and become a Breakthrough Ministry Team Member.

One by One
"For the Sake of a Child"
|
One by One Ministries is an exciting and innovative outreach program designed to mentor new and expectant mothers. Needing love and encouragement, new parents may be more open to the gospel than at any other time in their lives. Each month, volunteer mentors meet with moms from the Fort Worth Pregnancy Center or from Travis' neighborhood ministries. By using the One by One curriculum, mentors are equipped to reach these new parents for Christ, to help build strong families, to prevent child abuse, and to educate families about the growth and development of their babies. Each mom enrolled in One by One is assigned a mentor who meets with her for about one hour each month during her pregnancy and during the first year of the baby's life. Together, the mother and the mentor work on an interactive baby book. One mentor working with one mother and one baby will make a huge difference in this generation and the next. Every baby deserves a chance to become all God has planned for him or her. Contact Linda to become a One by One Mentor "for the sake of a child."

Items such as pens, pencils, crayons, folders, scissors, glue, and notebook paper are collected in the church office in August and monetary donations are welcome as well. Start collecting your school supplies now!

Fall Festival
Fall Festival is a safe and happy alternative to Halloween. Costumed children and their parents from our neighborhood and our membership are invited to enjoy an evening of games, food, and lots of candy. There are many ways you can be involved in this ministry: donate candy, make a monetary donation to help defray the costs of the evening, provide a dessert, man a game, help with food service, etc.
|
Missions Emphasis Sunday
The fall Missions Emphasis Sunday is designed to encourage missions education and involvement. The day begins with the pageantry of the annual Parade of Flags in the morning worship service and ends with a Missions Fair and dinner in the evening. Guest speakers and special programming remind us of the impact of our continued involvement in mission work and the importance of our generous giving through the Cooperative Giving Program, the Lottie Moon Offering, and the World Missions Offering.
|
Thanksgiving Celebration/Turkey Giveaway
The annual Thanksgiving Celebration gives us an opportunity to offer spiritual food as well as physical food to those in our community who are in need. Travis members donate turkeys and trimmings, providing for approximately 450-500 families. Prior to the turkey giveaway, we host a Celebration Service in the Sanctuary, sharing the message of the saving love of Jesus Christ with all those who attend.
|
Christmas Store
The Travis Christmas Store is an annual outreach event that provides toys for the children of families in our community. Last year, over 1000 children from 350 families received toys from the Christmas Store. In addition, 118 adults made decisions for Christ.
|
| Here's how you can be a part of this event: |
- Volunteer to Help - 150 volunteers are needed for each night of the store
- Contribute for Toys - Remember our "Adopt a Child" campaign. A $20 contribution covers all the toys for one child. Simply make out your check to TABC and designate Christmas Store on the memo line and bring (or mail) it to the church office.
