Legacy / Senior Adults

Welcome to the Legacy and Senior Adult ministry of Travis Avenue Baptist Church. You will find a joyful mixture of active adults aged 60 and above who are busy serving the Lord and enjoying fellowship in a variety of ways. While we have a large Legacy and Senior Adult group, there is always room for more.

Some may think that older adulthood is a time to sit in the rocking chair and do nothing. They would be surprised to see what’s going on with the seasoned adults of Travis Avenue Baptist Church.

The Bible often points to older adulthood as a source of wisdom. Our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have purchased a heritage with their faithful lives and examples through the years. They have received this heritage from the Lord and stand ready to pass along that heritage to the generations to follow.

Psalm 71:18 is our theme, “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.”

Our adults are active and energetic, serving in a multitude of ways.  Travis Avenue Legacy and Senior Adults are growing and serving through such ways as the following.

That Thursday Thing

Once a month we gather on a Thursday for lunch, a brief devotional time, and fellowship together. Sometimes we have a special program, sometimes we sing hymns, and always we play and enjoy our fellowship together. We meet in the Great Room for lunch and then move into our game rooms for fun and fellowship. It’s a great way to get to know one another and introduce guests to our Legacy and Senior Adult groups.

Homebound Ministry

Our members who are not able to get out and attend church activities are not forgotten. We have an active group of visitors who make caring visits, deliver Bible study materials, and just sit and visit with our homebound members on a regular schedule. Under the direction of Carolyn Hill, this group provides loving hospitality and joy to those who cannot come to us.

Other Ministry and Mission Opportunities

• Older married couples mentoring young newlywed couples
• Serving in our community ministries
• Mission trips overseas and in the U. S.
