Sunday, January 30th, 2011We’ve been talking about the fact that our main assignment as followers of Christ is to be His witnesses. After Jesus ascended to heaven after His resurrection He promised His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit to come to indwell them. And the purpose for which He would invade our lives with His Spirit is to give us power for being His witnesses.

Monday, January 17th, 2011“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
Jesus constantly battled the worldly mindset of His followers. They tended to look at life the way their pagan neighbors did. Important people have many people serve them. Jesus turned that mentality upside down. We are not measured by how many people serve us, but by how many we serve. Nonbelievers think, “Serve us!” Christ-followers think, “Service.”

Monday, January 17th, 2011We need to be reminded of our essential identity as the Church. It’s not negotiable or optional. Jesus said before He ascended to the Father in heaven, “You will be my witnesses.” Earlier He challenged His followers, “Follow Me, and this is what I will do … I will make you to fish for men.” That’s who we are as the people of God … witnesses.
